A Walt Disney vacation takes planning and saving. Once you get there, you will want to optimize your time in the parks so that you can make the most of your visit. Some people take a leisurely tour of the parks, and even if they do not see everything that they would like, they are satisfied. Others, want to see and experience as much of Disney World as possible. They make good use make use of the time available to them. Time passes quickly while you are touring a park, and if time is lost when it could have been avoided, you may find that you have run out of time to see an attraction that you wanted to experience. To make the most of your time in the parks, here are several simple tips to help you optimize your Disney World vacation.
This is most important thing you can do to optimize your time in the park. Arriving an hour prior to the official park opening if possible is a good start. The first people in the park get to ride some of the most popular attractions just after opening. They beat the long lines and waiting times. Waiting in line first thing in the morning can eat up prime touring time when the park is not yet completely busy.
Know how FastPass+ Works
Learn how the FastPass+ system works and how to use it by reading the Undercover Tourist FastPass+ guide. This is a time saver. It allows you to take in some of the most popular attractions with a minimzed wait. FastPass+ service allows you to reserve a 1-hour window of time to visit a certain attraction with a reduced wait or reserve a spot for a show. Your FastPass+ selections will then be tied to your tickets or MagicBands. Once you have a FastPass+ time reserved for one of the attractions, during the morning prime touring time you can focus on trying to experience other attractions and short rides that have high waits.
Extend the Park Hours
Seeing a parade or show near or at closing time extends the park hours and affords more touring time. This is especially useful when a park closes early. For example, when Disney’s Animal Kingdom closes at 5 p.m., taking in a show such as Finding Nemo the Musical that has a 5 p.m. start and ends about 5:40 affords you an extra 40 minutes. (Be sure to arrive 20 minutes early.) This means that most of the park’s crowd is gone and it’s easy to leave. The great benefit of this is it only takes 20 minutes of park touring time out of your day instead of over an hour. While cast members stop guests from getting in line at closing time, the parks themselves will stay open to guests for another hour or so.
Make Use of Your Time While Waiting for a Parade or Show
Don’t waste the time you wait for a parade or show to start. Purchase a quick-service meal and take it with you to the spot where you will wait. This will enable you will to eat something and give young kids something to do.
FastPass vs. Standby Wait Times
Don’t try to estimate the wait time by the line length instead of the posted standby wait times. A standby line may seem short, but it may mean that just a handful of people may be taken at a time from it while the FastPass line goes much quicker.Disney estimates the wait times by giving a small plastic card to those in line. A cast member collects them upon boarding the attraction. Using these cards, Disney tracks exactly how much time elapses from entering the line to boarding the attraction..
